Arabic and Ethiopic manuscripts, is said to have been bought at Medinet Habu in Upper Egypt in about 1769 by the Scottish traveller. James Bruce.' We owe this information to C. G. Woide who made the first copy of the Coptic gnostic texts contained in it. He also first brought them to public notice with an article on the Egyptian version of the Bible, and he gave the biblical citations in his Appendix ad editionem Novi tions Testamenti. After his death his copy of the texts was held by the Clarendon Press, Oxford, under the number MS. Clarendon Press d. 13. In 1848 the codex was acquired by the Bodleian Library, together with Woide's transcript of the gnostic texts. The gnostic manuscripts were catalogued under the number Bruce 96.

Wish the Untitled Text was included. Still very thorough and exciting. JEU does not have anything to do with IAO as some reviewers have stated, IAO is Sabaot, which is Abrasax, who is the Archon described in the Hypostatsis of the Archons as the Archon who was able to acknowledge the Higher realities and so was elevated to the eighth heaven witb Achamot and appointed over the 365 Aeons of the 21 Influences of Nature, some of the Gnostic Scriptures seem to state that Abrasax escaped the 21 Influences and resides in the Pleroma within the great Luminary Elelet, but it is more probable that he was only able to rise to the level of Achamot who is the representation of the Aeon Sophia within the nightmare of the Illusion of Separation. JEU has to do with the Gnostic formula IEOUEAO as relating to the incarnation of Iesous. Which is the vowel magic of the vowels of the Name Iesous in order joined to alpha omega through epsilon. This is still a very valuable Gnostic Text of the Sethian school.Product details

Excellent!
First off its a thin book, 92 pages long. I read in one of the reviews that the book only contained the first two books of Jeu omitting the untitled text and the hymn. Unless I read it incorrectly Im glad to report that it is as the title reports "the texts from the Bruce codex" the original languages are not given, however the diagrams are. There is an abridgement where the texts near repeat themselves in chapters 11 to 34. Chapters 11 to 52 are omitted. Editor basically says not much to see from chapter 11, and that which is of interest is to be found repeated in the untitled text. (a chapters length is about 3/4 of a page). The text continues with the untitled text (Which is about half the book), which itself has no diagrams and is totally different to the hypothetical two books of Jeu. After the untitled text the fragment of a gnostic hymn, and the passage of the soul. Also brief summaries are given of the chapters , at the beginning of the book. The two books of Jeu flow and read basically as one narrative, The name "the two books of Jeu" being totally unrelated to the text , should have been named " The Book of the great Logos". The two books of jeu was coined from a reference in the Pistis Sophia. As a side note the Bruce Codex and the Askew Codex (Pistis Sophia) were once published together by Till, and has been observed by Erin Evens that the gnostic group, who held these two separately found codexes as scripture (together with the gnostic Odes of Solomon and the Psalms of David) could be better termed as Jeuians, a seperate sect to the possible sect who held the Nag hammadi codexes in high esteem. So Just as the Mandeans, Manicheans, Sethians, Valentinians all had their personalities so might too The Jeuians, and we are very lucky to have two collections testifying of their existence. ) Oh, that the Pistis Sophia (cheaply obtainable from Lindisfarne Books, Violet Mc Dermots translation), Books of Jeu and the Psalms and Odes of David and Solomon might be bound together in a smyth sewn hardcover one day? maybe if many suggest it to the publisher....?
All in all I am very great full to Theophania Publishing for making this text available at such a reasonable price. The translation is clean.
